Minister Anne Rabbitte, and Tipperary County Council, proudly inaugurated two of Tipperary’s very first Changing Places facilities in September 2023.
The two partners and locations that were awarded the Funding were FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles and Boher Community Hall, Ballina.
In FBD Semple Stadium this initiative ensures that one of Tipperary’s most iconic sports venues is now more inclusive and accommodating to all visitors, regardless of their accessibility needs.
In Boher Community Hall Ballina a community-centric approach ensures that a vital gathering place is now fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, fostering inclusivity within the Boher community and surrounding bordering counties.
Changing Places facilities are specially designed, fully accessible spaces that cater to the needs of individuals with disabilities who require additional support when using public restrooms. These facilities provide essential amenities such as height-adjustable changing benches, hoists, and adequate space for both users and caregivers. MMS Medical was delighted to be the full turn key service provider for both facilities.
Minister Anne Rabbitte expressed her enthusiasm about this initiative, stating, “I am proud to be part of this significant milestone in Tipperary’s journey towards a more inclusive and accessible community.
“These Changing Places facilities represent our commitment to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can fully participate in our vibrant community life.” This initiative is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Tipperary County Council and the two implementing partners, who have worked tirelessly to make these facilities a reality. The Changing Places facilities will serve as a model for future projects aimed at improving accessibility throughout the region. Access Officer, Áine Roche, with Tipperary County Council stated: “We hope this is the first of many Changing Places facilities within the county, and the change in the part M building regulations that came into effect in January of this year requires all new public buildings to install a Changing Places facility is very encouraging and a pivotal step in providing more opportunities and allowing families and people with disabilities to enjoy every day activities without having to worry about appropriate facilities which is basic human right.”
